Doing A People Search
Just about anything you could ever want to know can be found on the internet. Almost anything that is personal about yourself can be found on the internet as well. It isn’t a wonder why there is so much identity theft taking place nowadays.
We’re practically allowing the criminals to have access to all of our personal information. I was a victim of identity theft a few years ago. Someone got ahold of my credit card number and purchased a few things. That was actually easy to clear up.
Luckily, I have not had any other issues thus far. I’m surprised about that though since I do almost all of my banking and bill paying online. I do all of my Christmas shopping on the internet as well.
There are people who want to find a long lost relative or friend who turn to the internet as their source for research. You can conduct a people search on lots of different sites, for a small fee. All of the websites advertise that you can do a people search for free, but I’ve yet to find one that will give you any detailed information for free.
All of them charge some sort of fee. I suppose that is nice that no one can get my address and phone number for free, however, for a small fee, they can have as much as they so desire. I’m not so sure I want to be found. I pay a monthly fee to my phone company to have my phone number unlisted, yet, people still somehow manage to get it.
I really don’t want people to know where I live. If someone wants to do a people search, I just might have uninvited guests stopping by when my house is a mess. And quite frankly, if we’ve lost touch with one another, what makes you think that finding me is something that I’d even want?
Maybe there’s a reason we lost touch. By doing a people search online, you may be opening some doors that were closed for a reason. Think about all of the people who may have relocated because they wanted to get away from people they didn’t want to be around anymore. Suddenly, through a people search, harassment or stalking can occur. Criminals might even pick their victims through a people search. It wouldn’t be hard to do.
If you’re going to start a people search, remember that it isn’t free. Find a site and company that is reputable before you give them your information and payment. And keep in mind that the people you may be searching for, just may not want to be found. Be willing to respect their privacy.
